Cowgills has advised Simkiss Group on its sale to Warrington-based, United Infrastructure, a provider of solutions for the UK’s critical infrastructure, backed by Apollo Global Management.
United Infrastructure has acquired Rochdale-based Simkiss Group, the Cowgills deal team was led by Dave Simmons and Ed Higham.
Founded more than 25 years ago, Simkiss specialises in the design and build of control systems, control panels and switchgear, with services spanning installation, testing, commissioning and ongoing maintenance, predominantly across the utilities sector.
The acquisition strengthens United Infrastructure’s technical capabilities across the energy, power and utilities markets, broadening its engineering expertise and enhancing its ability to deliver increasingly complex, end-to-end solutions for customers operating in critical infrastructure.
Neil Armstrong, chairman and CEO of United Infrastructure, said:
“This acquisition is a strong strategic fit for United Infrastructure. Simkiss Group brings proven design and engineering expertise that enhances our technical capability across energy and power activities.
By investing in these skills, we are strengthening our ability to deliver more technical and integrated solutions for our customers operating in critical infrastructure.”
Paul Simkiss, group chairman of Simkiss Group, added:
“Joining United Infrastructure marks an exciting next chapter for Simkiss Group. We have built our reputation on quality, technical excellence and long-standing customer relationships, and United Infrastructure shares those values.
Becoming part of a larger group will allow us to grow, invest further in our people and capabilities, and continue delivering high-quality solutions across the energy, utilities and infrastructure sectors.”
Dave Simmons, partner at Cowgills, said:
“Simkiss is a high-quality, well-managed business with a strong reputation in the utilities and infrastructure markets. United Infrastructure is an excellent long-term home for the group, providing the scale and strategic backing to support its next phase of growth.
We were pleased to support the Simkiss team through this transaction and to help deliver a successful outcome for all parties.”
United Infrastructure has grown rapidly through a series of strategic acquisitions. In December 2025, the group acquired the UK transmission and distribution engineering business of John Wood Group PLC, its third major power sector acquisition of the year, following the integrations of Jones and Glenelly Infrastructure Services. At the time, the company said the deal represented a significant step forward in expanding across the entire power infrastructure value chain.
