Job Title

Director of Wealth Management

How long have you been at Cowgills?

I joined Cowgills in June 2013, so it will be my seventh year anniversary later this year.

Ok, so what exactly do you do?

It is my job to work alongside our clients to preserve and enhance their wealth over the short, medium and longer term. Understanding our clients’ lifestyle and longer term goals is just as important to us as the technical knowledge that is required for us to deliver our advice. Once we know and understand the position our clients are in now and where they would like to be in the future, we can deliver financial advice that is relevant to their unique circumstances.

Give us some highlights

Being involved in the growth of the business over the last seven years has been rewarding. We had eight staff when I joined the business and now we have 16 staff in Bolton and eight in Ilkley.

The most rewarding aspect of the job is undoubtedly the time spent with clients. Getting to know them on a personal and professional level and making a positive difference to their financial lives is a really good feeling.

What challenges do you find clients are experiencing at the moment and how are you helping them to overcome them?

Common conversation topic at present is how to generate positive investment returns in an environment of such low interest rates and market uncertainty. Clients are also concerned about the effect Brexit will have on their portfolios. As you can imagine there is no short answer to these questions, but I believe that a well-diversified risk managed portfolio will deliver returns that out perform deposit based accounts and inflation over the longer term. Explaining investment risk to clients is a vital part of our conversations with them and as long as a client understands that there will be volatility along the way the journey is usually a lot more tolerable.
